I have always been fascinated by informed consent and the critical intersection of ethics, law, and practice that the process of informed consent represents. The need for informed consent reform cannot be overstated; it is a systems problem that requires a systems solution.
As much of the literature on organizational culture describe, trust and mutual respect are at the core of great relationships, including professional teams. My belief is that these principles should be cultivated from the beginning of any professional career. In healthcare, I am interested in examining the relationship between resident physicians and nurses. I would like to evaluate if the experience of interdisciplinary team training during medical and nursing school, by participating in a collaborative simulation lab influences the subsequent relational and effectiveness aspects of their teamwork in future work environments. Incorporating study of professional joy, burnou,t and patient experiences and outcomes is also of interest.
